Treeline, Clearing Storm, 2004. North Cascades National Park,
Washington
This photograph was taken within hours of the Trees and Fog image high in Washington state's North Cascades mountains. On a day when the incessant drizzle seemed like it would never stop, the clouds finally began to break near sunset and I was able to scramble to this spot and quickly make two exposures on 4x5 Kodak Tri-X film. I like the recessive ridges which accentuate the feeling of depth. The treeline is printed to a rich, stark value and provides a good key for this image.
