This image was shot in the early morning amidst Death
Valley's photogenic sand dunes. I was struck by the symmetry of the
forms and the contrary patterns of the sand ripples and the horizontal
clouds. Even the upswept peaks of the dunes seemed to echo the graceful
pointed clouds. The film was Kodak T-Max 100 developed Normal + 1 in
T-Max RS developer. I used a yellow filter to help preserve the separation
between the clouds and the sky. The top half of the print is burned
substantially. Immediately after exposure of the negative, an intense
sandstorm developed, making it quite a chore to pack the camera
into my backpack and return to the car. The sandstorm grew in
severity and lasted for an entire day.
