Branches and Lake, 2002. North Cascades National Park,
WA
High in the North Cascades mountain range, not far from the Mount Baker ski area, I spent many afternoons on several different trips working with compositions around this pristine mountain lake. Using a black 4x5 cutout card to assist in visualizing this composition, I set the camera up while fighting off hungry mosquitos. I like the clean composition of this photograph which I refined by looking at the image in the camera's ground glass while moving the camera position and angle slightly. I used Tri-X film developed normally in Kodak HC-110 developer. The print is made to intentionally enhance the luminous, etherial quality of the near-white tree branches.
