I took refuge from a passing thunderstorm inside this
empty hotel building in the ghost town of Bannack, Montana. The light filtering in through the windows was
soft yet somber, and it seemed to enhance the ghostly emptiness of
this interior. I used a Schneider 121 mm Super Angulon lens on my
4x5 camera and exposed Tri-X film to achieve a good full scale negative
with lower contrast development. The key to this print is a careful
balancing of values. A Shadow Contrast Increase Mask used in the Precision Pin-Registration Carrier System subtly
enhances the railing and the door trim.
